Greys River Outfitters
Hunting Camp
Greys River Outfitters has always maintained a neat and orderly camp. The wall tents are set on wood floors and are heated by a wood burning stove. Camp is lighted by a 2500 watt Honda Generator. The sleeping accommodations are just as elaborate; we have outfitter cots that are topped with foam mattresses. Our camp also includes a full-size cooking trailer where your meals will be prepared and a shower facility, with hot water for use after returning from your day of hunting. If you have any food allergies or diet restrictions, please let us know during your book process so we can accommodate your needs. The hunting guides and crew of Greys River Outfitters are very experienced, professional and courteous. Everyone on the crew has been doing this for years and to tell you the truth they just plain love what they do for a living. It is our personal guarantee that everyone on the crew will give 100% effort to make your trip a safe, successful and enjoyable one. The horses you will be riding are sure-footed, gentle, strong and well taken care of. All of the tack and equipment that it takes to operate the Greys River Outfitters camp is in the best of condition.
Hunting Day
A typical hunting day begins about 4:00 a.m. with a delicious hot breakfast while your guides get the horses saddled and ready for the long day ahead. After breakfast, you will pack a lunch of your choice (if the cook has not already prepared one for you) and coordinate with your guide on a departure time. When the time arrives, you will either travel by truck to a trailhead, or mount your horses at camp and head toward the area of the guide’s choice. You will be in the saddle long before daylight, starting your trek into the rugged mountains putting you in prime Wyoming hunting country at the crack of dawn. We will glass the ridges and canyons for trophies feeding or traveling to their day beds. Most of the time we will spot and stalk, but in the heat of the day we sometimes set up drives or still hunt through the timber. When Evening arrives we go back to glassing to try and locate animals to move in on before dark, or to have a starting point for the following mornings hunt. When you arrive at camp there will be a delicious hot meal, hot shower, camp fire, exciting hunting stories, and a warm comfortable tent waiting for you.
It is suggested that you be in the best physical shape possible, for this is a very rugged and strenuous hunt. The country varies in elevations ranging from 8500 feet to over 11,000 feet. Horse experience is a plus but not required. Practice shooting your rifle off hand, prone, seated and everything in between. A fast, flat trajectory caliber is recommended and average shot distance varies. If you have any questions on caliber recommendations for the species you are hunting, don't hesitate to contact us.
